Durham Region, Ontario – July 9, 2024 – Since Angel Investors Durham’s (AID) first Investment Meeting in February 2024, the not-for-profit organization has achieved remarkable milestones. Substantial funding and in-kind contributions from economic development partners, innovation hubs, academia, corporate leaders, and Ontario’s umbrella organization for angel investors—Angel Investors Ontario, have offered the vital support needed to empower AID to launch, thrive, and grow. With AID’s accredited investor members injecting $400,000 into innovative startups, our impact on founders and the economy has already been profound.
The community has been tremendously supportive with nearly $100,000 in sponsorship dollars and an equivalent amount in in-kind support, Angel Investors Durham secured its operating budget for the year with essential services covered including legal, marketing, accounting, venues for monthly investment meetings, catering, and more. This robust commitment from sponsors underscores the belief in our organization’s transformative potential. Sponsors and partners include Angel Investors Ontario, Spark Centre, Synergy Lab, Kleurvision Inc., Jay Kilgannon, RBC Wealth Management, Bereskin & Parr LLP, MNP LLP, Lockyer + Hein LLP, Durham College, Invest Clarington, Invest Durham, and City of Oshawa.
In just five monthly investment meetings, our accredited investor members, dedicated to fostering groundbreaking startups, have invested $400,000 in several founders. Companies benefiting from investment include Cinareo, Ecosystem Informatics Inc., NeoTrust, Kaveris, and Vessl Prosthetics. This impressive figure highlights the strength and promise of angel investment in boosting startups, contributing to the economic vitality of the region, province, and country.
“As a result, everyone benefits—companies access capital and mentors to scale, jobs are created, our communities foster; and the local, Ontario and Canadian economies grow.” said Frank Auddino, Executive Director for Angel Investors Durham.
As we settle into our summer break, we reflect on these successes with appreciation and enthusiasm for the future. This pause allows us to rest, recharge, and restrategize, ensuring we return to our investment meetings in September with renewed energy and vision to continue supporting our vibrant startup ecosystem.
